Paid Internship: Office of National Drug Control Policy (OCDIR)

Washington, D.C., DC
Office of Commercial Disruption and International Relations
Student (College)

The Executive Office of the President's Office of National Drug Control Policy (EOP/ONDCP) leads interagency and intergovernmental policy development and analysis work focused on two distinct but interconnected mission spheres: public health interventions aimed at reducing illicit substance use or misuse of prescription drugs, treating substance use disorder, and developing and enhancing resources for those in recovery from substance use; and interdiction initiatives aimed at reducing the trafficking and overall availability of illicit substances and their chemical precursors.

ONDCP's Office of Commercial Disruption and International Relations (OCDIR) develops and implements supply reduction policy to reduce drug use and its consequences and coordinates all ONDCP international engagements.  This component drafts the relevant sections of the National Drug Control Strategy, supports the ONDCP budget guidance development process with international relations and supply reduction subject matter expertise to ensure adherence to evidence-and-intelligence-based approaches among the interagency, and convenes the interagency to ensure execution of drug policy priorities.  Component staff work on a range of domestic and international issues, including, multilateral engagements, and domestic law enforcement.

ONDCP/OCDIR seeks 1 full-time and 3 part-time interns who are highly motivated to contribute to ONDCP's critical mission.  The internships will focus on general research, writing memos, preparing and delivering briefs.  Strong communication skills, especially writing, is key. Spanish skills may be useful but not required.  An International Relations background is preferable.

The Summer 2024 internship term is currently scheduled to begin on June 10, 2024, and currently set to end on August 16, 2024.  Interns will receive stipend payments of $375/week for part-time interns and $750/week for full-time interns.  Part-time is considered a minimum of 15 hours/week to 34 hours/week; full-time is considered 35 – 40 hours/week.  Stipend payments will be calculated based on the hourly rate (part-time or full-time) multiplied by the total weeks in the session (10).  Two thirds of the overall stipend amount will be paid on or about the beginning of the internship; the remaining one third will be paid upon successful completion of the internship.  In the event an internship ends early for any reason, the intern may be required to reimburse the government for any stipend amounts or portion thereof paid to the intern.  All internships are located in Washington, D.C.  All intern schedules are Monday – Friday and interns may only work between the hours of 7am – 7pm ET.

Selected interns must be available for the entire duration of the Spring 2024 session (i.e., June 10 through August 16, 2024); and must be available for the entirety of the first day of the program (June 10, 2024).
